Texas Heritage Songwriters Association Artwork and Upcoming Events
Feb 24th
I have been asked by the Texas Heritage Songwriters Association to create paintings of their 2011 honorees. This is a project I am very excited about. Thus far, I have met Delbert McClinton, Lee Roy Parnell and Bruce Channel. I sat in on their TV interviews and took some photos of Lee Roy, which I used for his painting. Sports and music have always been passions of mine (in addition to my lovely wife) and becoming the artist for the TxHSA is an absolute honor. Plus it’ll be FUN!! I look forward to a long partnership with ‘em.
Events surrounding the honoring of these noted songwriters start March 5, 2011 in Austin, Texas and I’ll be at the events displaying and selling the prints. (The paintings are in the Texas Heritage Songwriters Association collection.) For more information about the events go to the Texas Heritage Songwriters Association web site. You can also purchase these autographed limited edition prints on my web site.

Thanks T.S. of Sports Collectors Digest
Jan 20th
For those of you familiar with Sports Collectors Digest, T. S. O’Connell is retiring as editor after 17 years. In his “Editor’s Note-Saying Goodbye” column in the January 2011 issue and Saying good-bye is tough, Part Deux … blog post he put together a Sports Artist Hall of Fame artist and included little ole me. … and here I am without an acceptance speech.
Thanks T.S. for thinking well of my dabblings!

Excerpt:
“Virtually even before I took over as editor, I made a concerted effort to promote as many of the great sports artists as I could in the pages each week. I’ll take the risk of leaving someone out because I really want to acknowledge as many of those great talents as I can.
Here goes: Charles De Simone, Bill Forsyth, Dan Gardiner, Stephen Holland, Robert Hurst, Michael Joseph, Andy Jurinko, Graig Kreindler, Ron Lewis, Paul Madden, Mike Mellett, Arthur K. Miller, Christopher Paluso, Dick Perez, Bill Purdom, Nathalie Rattner, Mike Schacht, Bruce Stark, Ron Stark and Darryl Vlasak. If that’s not a great inaugural class for the Sports Artist Hall of Fame, I don’t know what is.”

Official Artist to the Texas Heritage Songwriters Association
Dec 10th
I’m very jazzed about this new gig. I’ll be painting the official portraits of the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees starting with the class of 2011. The Texas Heritage Songwriters Association is the home of the Texas Songwriters Hall of Fame. Fans will be able to purchase prints with proceeds benefiting the association.
2011 inductees include Bruce Channel (Hey! Baby, Stand Up), Delbert McClinton (Two More Bottles of Wine, Givin’ It Up for Your Love), Gary Nicholson (That’s The Thing About Love, One More Last Chance) and Lee Roy Parnell (What Kind of Fool Do You Think I Am, Love Without Mercy), “A quartet of iconic Texas songwriters whose work has been recorded and performed by major award winning entertainers, including themselves”. The annual awards show and concert will be on March 6th, 2011. I’ve already met with two of the inductees. Check out my Facebook page (Robert Hurst – A Damn Fine Artist) for my postings about the meetings.
Stayed tuned for more information as it evolves.
