Heisman Anniversary Weekend Notes
Another year, another Heisman Anniversary Weekend in Austin, Texas. This is a pretty cool event. Triton Financial has combined the Legends of Golf tour with the Heisman banquet to create a unique even. Eighteen Heisman winners attended the banquet this year. Unfortunately, the 50th anniversary honoree Billy Cannon was a no show, something about missing a flight. Doug Flutie was honored for his 25th anniversary. He seemed genuinely happy to be part of the evening and said he plans to be more involved in future Heisman events. Earl Campbell (’77), Tony Dorsett (’76), Mike Rozier (’83), Charley Ward (’93) and Tim Brown (’87) were there. I had 2 tables at the banquet and everyone showed up. We sat with Johnny Lattner (1953 Heisman) and Jason White (2003 Heisman). Bernard Langer and Ben Crenshaw also attended. I was standing next to Langer, getting a beer and I over heard him joke that he was surprised that no one was asking for his autograph. I also met the Executive Director of the Heisman Trophy Trust. And we discussed licensing and possible future projects.
A couple of days later, Pam, my wife, and I went to the final day of the golf tournament. The weather was sunny and warm. The Hills is an awesome golf course and there are lots of areas for shade and clear viewing.
This is Triton’s first year to combine The Legends of Golf and football. I believe it was a huge success and will continue. Triton is expecting bigger and better things next year.
If you’d like to attend the banquet next year leave a comment And if you’re interested in owning a part of Heisman Trophy history yourself, check out the autographed Heisman artwork on my web site. In case you haven’t seen it, it’s a pretty cool painting if I do say so myself. I obtained the autographs personally and guarantee authenticity. If it’s so awesome, why are you selling it you say? Well I did another one just for me that is definitely not for sale. I am, after all, a fan myself.
Best Regards,
Robert
